tender_square daylight broke blue against the soft
shock of white, no longer undisturbed:
a graceful shuffle of feet, the prints
interlocking train cars stretching
diagonal track across the yard.
from the window, i thought
they’d stopped, changed heart
as they moved obvious along
a backdrop that gave away their bones,
reversed course. then, i noticed
the leaps: one, two…ten.
there’s a time for slow deliberation,
and a time for darting through the chasm,
bridging the world wedged between
nightfall and daybreak.
