dime
raze i found a dime in the middle of the driveway. the sun shoved its shine straight into my cruelest eye. "put it in your pocket," my father said. "for luck." now there's a second silver circle on the table where we eat our meals. i can hear the one that's mine touch the black tongue of the lens_cap i keep close to me when it isn't where it belongs. reminding me of something that seems to be in short supply. it doesn't announce itself with every step i take. it'll fall silent for most of the day. and just when i'm sure it's abandoned me, the quiet click of unkempt kindness rises up out of nothing and makes itself known again. 240224
