epitome of incomprehensibility
|
I told Dad, all excited, that I had evidence for a shared Semitic/Indo-European word: "Proto-Indo-European *h₂stḗr (star, nominative) sounds a lot like Esther in the Bible!" He chuckled from his study with the elephants on the wall. "But Esther was her Persian name." Last time I talked with him about Esther/Hadassah as he tried to study Hebrew verbs, I was more like, "If her story is true, why why didn't God do that again?" Through the points of the stars in the lights blurred by rain? The "Presbyterian Rabbi": "I don't think the story was supposed to be true.”
