insults
raze a man walks into a tavern, weak and white-haired and ground down by life. he takes a seat at the bar beside a man half his age.

the younger man smiles.

"you're carrying some real damage," he says. "i can see it."

"you don't know a thing about me," the older man says. "i'd press a poem into your face, but i wouldn't lay a joke on you."

that ends the conversation before it's begun. for to deny another person whatever joy lives behind the pain that pockmarks your soul is the greatest insult of all.
