u24 Mr Bleh said (paraphrasing) that he thinks it was a good thing that we (UK) invaded iraq, despite the butler report revealing that we went there on flawed information. He says that it is good that we have liberated iraq from an oppressive and dangerous regime.

My question for Mr Bleh, is who next? let's liberate North Korea, or Zimbabwe, how about Libya? After all, if it wasn't the (non-existant) WMD or the (very-existant) oil that led us to Iraq, we can now go on and liberate the rest of the world.

WASHINGTON, July 22 - Military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan are running $12.3 billion over budget this year, and Pentagon officials are trying to make up for the shortfall by transferring money from other accounts and delaying refurbishment of worn-out equipment in Iraq,

yadda yadda I support the war.
My brother is going to Baghdad next month.
He's been wanting to go.
I don't know why he's willing to die.
I don't feel sad, or happy.
I love him so much.
He loves this country.
And he's willing to die to protect our rights, and to keep us safe.
To keep ME safe.
And people can take those rights and abuse them, and complain about what we are doing...
but they don't see the truth I think.
The media can distort the truth so much.
I think we are doing a good thing.

My brother WANTED to go.
He was READY to DIE.
He is WILLING.

I only wish that the people of America would look at these people and not knock them down, don't make them feel like they are the bad guys.

Because it's really kinda horrible when you know that you are doing the right thing but everyone is yelling at you that you are wrong, and blaming you.

The Crapture --"I support the war. "
[Why, most of the reasons we were given for it have been falling apart with every bit of increased scrutiny.]

--"My brother is going to Baghdad next month."
[then i wish the man safety and godspeed and hope he makes it through his tour unscathed]

--"He's been wanting to go. "
[most of the people i've talked to who are there or have been and come back changed their minds about that after awhile]

--"I don't know why he's willing to die."
[when you enlist, the issue of willingness to die is no longer yours to worry about]

--"I don't feel sad, or happy. "
[that's a form of passive anxiety, you can't show it, you're not even totally aware of it, but part of you wants to scream or cry]

--"I love him so much. "
[if you have faith, pray for him]

--"He loves this country.
And he's willing to die to protect our rights, and to keep us safe.
To keep ME safe. "
[this is the part where we need to stop and examine a few things... before the Smirking Chimp masquerading as president decided to launch the invasion of Iraq, there wasn't really much of anything there that we needed to be kept safe from...the only terrorists in Iraq were living in the northern part that the Allies 'liberated' from Saddam during and after Desert Storm, beyond that, Saddam was the same guy that he was when Reagan and Bush Sr. had been arming and funding him from 1983 to a few weeks before Saddam invaded Kuwait, his military was thoroughly degraded, the weapons we were told to believe were poised like a knife at our throats never materialized, the lie that he would not permit inspections becomes hilarious when you stop and look at the fact that before the invasion, OUR gov't ordered the inspectors to leave so that Chimpy could get his war on, so please tell me, WHAT are we supposedly safer from?"

--"And people can take those rights and abuse them, and complain about what we are doing..."
[hold the phone once again, there, kid... the worst abuse of one's rights isn't to exercise them but to abdicate them... hmm, lemme see... our "leaders" largely abandoned the one clear mission that they began in Afghanistan to pursue a personal, election-oriented vendetta for W, they manufactured a cause for war in Iraq that has not proven anywhere near true, almost none of the "surgical" bombing strikes intended to take out the high-value targets from Huseein's regime and as a result of many of those air-strikes thousands of innocent civillians died in addition to enemy troops, and on top of that, by removing our pet monster saddam, whom our leaders kept and nurtured so well for so many years if only to piss off the Ayatollahs in Iran, we actually opened Iraq up to more terrorism and the guy who sold us most of the information that we acted on turned out to be, in all likelihood, an Iranian spy who duped us into doing what they could not do in 8 years of sustained war with Saddam....no, nothing complaint-worthy in any of that, i should just smile placidly and wave my flag and sing that godawfully atonal Lee Greenwood song because anything else would make me evil]

---"but they don't see the truth I think.
The media can distort the truth so much. "
[the media sat idly by and was content to play cheerleader for this war, never asking why the Afghanistan mission was left unfinished, never asking for any proof of what they were shoveling out for the benefit of the White House, if they (the media) have begun to turn against this Administration it's because a lot of people are starting to suspect that they have been worked and aren't buying everyting that George Bush, Dick Cheney, Rumsfeld or TOm Ridge are selling anymore]

"I think we are doing a good thing."

[It's funny to think that the among the crimes that got me disqualified from being a military intelligence candidate when i was young are some of the same crimes that many of the same commanders i would have answered to ordered their interrogators to use... yeah, from my warped perspective torture and sexual deviance are sometimes good things, but, then again, i was never a normal guy, ...replacing one dictator with someone who has admitted he might not govern any more gently than who he has replaced, yeah, that's a good thing,... alienating our allies, arm-twisting smaller countries into sending troops so that we don't cut back their aid oackages, sending our troops into harms way based on a trumped up set of lies and in doing so stretching our military so thin that we may be truly vulnerable in the vent of a REAL threat, yeah , those are all just peachy.]

--"My brother WANTED to go.
He was READY to DIE.
He is WILLING."

[if i was still physically capable of trying to enlist again, even if it meant just being an infantryman or a mechanic or a driver, i would, but not because i believe in this particular war.]

--"I only wish that the people of America would look at these people and not knock them down, don't make them feel like they are the bad guys. "

[huh? when? where? other than a few assholes i've not heard many knocks directed at any of the troops except for that select group of knock-worthy dumbasses at Abu Ghraib...and as far as the key civillian leadership of Department of Defense goes, like the President they answer to, none of them ever did a legitimate day's service, and most of the American contingent of the CPA wasn't staffed by anybody with any real diplomatic experience, it was largely Heritage Foundation members, partisan political appointees picked as rewards for their affiliation, not for any genuine skill at the task they were assigned"

Because it's really kinda horrible when you know that you are doing the right thing but everyone is yelling at you that you are wrong, and blaming you.

[ummm, reminder, nobody but the fringe blaming the soldiers, lots and lots of people blaming THE POLITICIANS AND THEIR CORPORATE SPONSORS...and maybe a number of the "private security contractors" (mercenaries)...]

second guess What if they know he's already dead and they're keeping it a secret? What would be the motive behind the war on terror? Bin Laden's influence on the Muslim world is so great that even dead he inspires more to rise up and kill Americans?

I think that's where they're heading. How long would Bin Laden want to live in the mountains, maybe he has an advanced underground hideaway with high tech features. Maybe he's hiding in the U.S. and we just can't see it even though he's six foot five and Muslim. He's probably already had plastic surgery and perhaps has even dyed his skin and hair.

. Graham said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that his meeting with Tommy Franks (in February 2002) was at the general's headquarters, Central Command in Tampa, Fla.

"He laid out a very precise strategy for fighting the war on terror," Graham said.

"First, we should win the war in Afghanistan. Second, move to Somalia, which as he described was almost anarchy but with a substantial number of al-Qaida cells; then to Yemen. And that we should be very careful about Iraq, because our intelligence was so weak that we didn't know what we were getting into," Graham said.
