jane first show was a blast. met up at marilyn's on k st. at about 7; were supposed to go on at 9. luckily didn't go on till about 9:30 because by that time more people had showed up. i decided not to drink until the show was over. there were minor technical difficulties - pete's headphones were fucking up so i just switched with him because i figured it was more important for him to be on with the backing tracks than me - plus i could see them on the screen. then during "shepherd head" his drum fell over. thankfully sub q gary ran up on stage & helped put it back up while pete was playing. after we played most of the people hung out for a while & then took off. basically we had the house. was really fantastic for a first show. we all went to benny's afterwards to celebrate. crista & i were married on the back porch. 060807

jane first show july 27th. one week later, august 4th, we played at the roadhouse. now the roadhouse is off the grid so we didnt even fool ourselves into thinking we could pull a crowd out there. so basically we were just playing to the other three bands. probably because of its location, i really felt that they couldn't care less about local bands; that they were just doing us a favor. more technical difficulties. they cut our set short & cris didn't get to sing white rabbit. booze was expensive. we made less than half of what we made at marilyn's . everything was too loud. important experience to have (you can't win em all) but i dont want to play there again, & i think i'm speaking for the whole band here. even so i think we had fun. 060807

jane we played marilyn's again, october 21. i thought it went well, i mean, i had a blast, but there was drama after the show. e & v had both had way too much to drink. in fact, when the show was beginning, i couldn't find v - turns out he was getting shots of jamison at the bar. the sound guy, donny, had recorded the show. e & v had both messed up pretty bad, they had a fight afterwards at the studio. c & myself quietly carrying equipment back to the practice space. the whole "fuck you!" "no, fuck YOU!" fight was going nowhere, noses touching, pointing over each other's shoulders... e was losing his voice... v hit the van & threw his phone across the parking lot.
anyway, a couple days later the two made up, but it was decided that they would both take it easy on the booze for the next show.

jane i forgot to add about that show that the reason everyone drank so much was because we went on two hours later than we were supposed to. some hick with a guitar was supposed to "fill in some time" & instead ended up playing a full set. then blindfire played a full set, & were were headlining, so it was pretty damn late by the time we got on. 070223

jane we played a show at the capitol garage on november 30th, four days after my 21st birthday. i was a little perturbed that there was alcohol involved, because i thought it was going to be a dry show after the marilyn's fiasco. we played with razorblade monalisa. they ended up doing an encore so we went on late again. the stage was really small & i was crammed up into a corner behind the computer & boxed in with the keyboard stand. right next to peter. we had technical difficulties so i had to keyboard sync like at the roadhouse. only this time the stage was super close to the audience so i was afraid they could tell, they could see that my fingering was slightly off. secrets of the show revealed.
anyway it actually went great; we were all exhausted by the time it was over but we had to bring all the stuff back to the studio & unpack it. thinking we needed to do some more advertising

jane so the last show that we had was at old ironsides on january 19th. new year, no more tech difficulties. we did the show dry. vaughn did incredible, cris did incredible, peter did incredible (as always), elton did awesomely incredible, & if i do say so myself, i did not make one mistake. at one point in "shepherd head" this guy came up to the side of the stage & was peering over my shoulder to see what was going on on the computer, then he just reaches over & swipes at the mouse! it opened some menu, so i closed it & kept playing, then i was thinking i still couldn't hear myself, then i realized he had also knocked it off my track! well i fixed it very gracefully; elton said he didnt even notice it. i asked him to make an announcement after the song that if anybody touches the computer again they were going to get punched in the face.
i have to admit that after watching iguanadon play, and didley squat (we were supposed to play with necro beach finally but they flaked out the day of!), i am intimidated by performers. i told e that i would like to become a better performer. i was trying to dance while playing the keyboard but it is not as reliable a keyboard as didley squat's and i can't just pound on it like that, plus i am keeping my eyes out for drunken lurking mouse-swatters. and i didn't really have enough room to dance around because i had only about a foot² of room. i can't really headbang because i have headphones, & if i was going to, i would have to hold them onto my head, leaving only one hand. trouble trouble.
we have been working on the new song for quite some time. i can't wait to play it onstage, really. i wish we could smoke onstage. it would go really well with the feeling of liquidation that we're hoping the song invokes.

next show april 14 at willemina's in old sacramento.

jane willemina's on the 14th.
e decides to shave his head/arms/hands etc so that we can paint him with black latex paint. we ran all over town looking for the paint & finally found it at prevue's. i wore the polka dotted strapless dress & platform boots, scared i would fall over!
show was good - not as good as the Old I show, for sure.. but good. minor tech difficulties at the beginning... we went on late. went a little over time, but hey, when we headlined, the other bands went over time. it seems to always happen. we tried the new song (not-travel-time) and i think e forgot the lyrics somewhere in there & just started saying stuff like "this carpet ... smells really bad..." but apparently no one noticed. not even us other members!
we had some really good turn outs for the show, got $75 that went to studio rent. cris & i took back some equipment early & then came back to the show to talk to some people. i ended up chatting with darcy mostly (r.i.p. my lady).

j we're taking a hiatus as the computer crashed & we lost about a year's worth of music made. we moved everything out of the music studio, though p wants to stay there to drink, sleep, & not take out the garbage. e set up the equipment in our living room, where he can work with everyone & record them, with the exception of p. for him we'll just pay to have him recorded, drum recording isn't too expensive. 071204
