they_are_deleting_blather
nancy I don't want to scare you, but there are blathers of my creation that no longer exist. This defeats the object, if we cannot be sure that our ramblings are safe then i think i'll turn out the lights and go home.

I discovered this accidentally, spotting a word mid blathe that was not highlighted, a word that was definitely one of mine. I put it up at a time when i would try and fill in the blanks, dictionary style, so i had a look at what would have been its neighbours, and they were gone too.

Is this a technical problem or is mister big blather god (all praise his/her name)started to run out of hard drive space.

If the shit i spout doesn't remain, then neither will i.

nancy spout was one of mine too, this is getting out of hand.

roomite perhaps our blather hosts are trying to tell us that relevance is only a temporary phenomenon (temporary relevance - good thread title that).

on the other hand, perhaps blather was created as an idea repository. are we in fact contributing to the betterment of some clever writer(s)? maybe some of your ideas are disappearing to avoid plagiarism issues.

ok, so i'm prone to flights of imaginative fiction - even without the old drug habit...

sabbie they are deleting blather.

i went to find a poem i wrote so i could send it to a friend of mine and i went to 'punks' cos thats where i thought it was but it wasnt there, nor was it under punk.

i went and found a printout of it and it was intitled punks. and if you go and have a look there is a whole year that has fallen out of the page [tween mmm's blathe and me's blathe] and thats where my poem was.

hmm... eferimineral art. transitory. one more thing to make and break and its gone.

.:sighs:.
020516
...
littel_elf I've noticed that. Not that i've been here long enough to have things of mine deleted, but that words that looked like they should be linked aren't... made me wonder.

I'm for it, myself. I'd rather they deleted parts of blather than the whole thing... but then I haven't put a lot of myself here yet, so not a lot to lose.

paranoid martyr i posted this in i_counted_my_blathes as my former sn freakizh:

"
i had the same problem bobby. but the solution is easy. instead of going to http://blather.newdream.net/cgi-bin/blather?who;name=silentbob;email=bobbyevers%40Hotmail%2Ecom, you go to http://blather.newdream.net/cgi-bin/blather?who;name=silentbob and voilá! all your blathes appear.

you don't need to count them manually. let MSOffice help. copy all the list of blathes, paste 'em in a Word document, and select properties. there's a function for counting the words.

g'luck!

"

hope it helps.

Eowithien Hm.. I think that cleaning out blather everynow and then would be nice. Almost like the story of Noah and the Ark; we could cleanse it completely and begin anew.

That would be interesting. I'd probably miss some of the old things I've said too much though.

Very interesting.

Syrope i dont think the story of noah and the ark is very encouraging.

if i had to watch everything i ever knew be washed under a flood, and then be alone to ponder it for 40 days and 40 nights, i'd have to jump overboard.

"memory is the sense of loss, and loss pulls us after it"

Eowithien I agree about Noah and the Ark. I never said I believed it or anything, heh.

I'd probably have fun being on a boat for 40 days and 40 nights actually. Well, I guess I'm just crazy like that anyway.

smurfus rex I thought the system made a word in a post a link if the post was submitted after the blathe with the particular word in the title...in other words, the system works backwards and doesn't update older posts with new links. BnB Everything has to go sometime. Hard drives only last about 10 years or so. Paper lasts longer, but even that degrades at some point. Even I will be forgotten at some point in the future. Such is the nature of things...

However, now that i think about it, It would be interesting if they archived blather and started over every now and again. This doesn't mean deleting blather, just freezing the current blather in time and starting over from scratch. It would be interesting to see how a "new" blather would turn out.

TCMT perhaps there is a blather on the other side of the black hole where all the lost ones go and over there the blatherskites are asking: "where did these words come from? Who are these blatherskites?"
