Syrope "And why on earth not, since that is the message they hear every day? They have almost no choice but to associate themselves with disaster, no matter where they fit on the social ladder. They read about the crisis of premarital sex and illegitimate pregnancy (despite the fact that adults are more likely to be guilty of this social crime than teenagers are). They are bombarded with stories of aggressive, suicidal, or alcoholic teenagers, as if these represented the group as a whole. They are routinely reminded by counselors, psychologists, and educators who make their living from troubled youth that they are more depressed, more cynical, and more in need of help than any previous generations. 'If they have sex, they’re going to die. Between global warming and all the rest, do you blame them for feeling bad?' he wanted to know. Teenagers are also reminded every day that life worked better in the past, when high schools were rigorous, parents attentive, and teenagers respectful of their elders."

kill rhythm i sometimes wonder why people always assume that all teenagers are the same. because i can tell you for certain that they are not. i am a teenager. and i do NOT fit into the stereotype of a teenager. many would say, teenagers go out and all they want to do is get drunk and get high and have sex...well im not like that. this is only leading up to my actual point...
why do some teenagers see relationships as just "getting experiences and having fun"? i mean, why waste your time with someone who you dont want to be with for the rest of your life? it seems pretty meaningless to me. maybe i am wrong. maybe i should go out and find lots of guys to be with and get experience.
maybe, since i dont do those things, is why i feel so terrible right now.

Syrope i hate how we'll be discussing something in class, and one of the really popular kids will step up and attempt to be deep and say something like "well, admit it...teenagers are actually all about _______"
and i boil...not everyone between the ages of 13 and 20 wants to get drunk and try every drug available, vandalize important buildings, and make fun of old people...

iNsEcUrE_GoTh_GiRl i'm a teenage goth and many people stereotype me for that, but i dont want to go out and get stoned with most of the people in my year (4th year). I think that there are a lot of teens that fit into each stereotypical groups, eg. nerds, sporty ppl, the popular kids, etc etc. but people like to judge us by what we wear, what music we listen to and how we act. I could go on and on about me being judged because im a goth, but i'll save that for the goth blather. I think there is too much peer pressure and shit going on now and all teenagers are viewed as the same as each other when even in the cliques there is individuality.

I want to be myself but I cant live in this continually judgemental, harsh and close-minded world.
