tally_ho
fyn gula Yesterday, i had my sony digital8 and joined a photographer who was shooting a fox hunt.

we met the 25 riders, some of them children, listened to the hounds grow restless. the huntmaster was british and was art in motion.

we went on ahead to prepare for the first flight and in an unbelievable, unprecedented act of fate, a red fox suddenly appeared. the whip spotted it and let out this primeval scream not unlike a banshee. i was so excited, i forgot to film it.

then the huntmaster, speaking in a series of grunts and exclamations guided his hounds to the scent, shouted "tally ho!" blew his horn and off they went on the chase. we stumbled after them on foot, had to crawl across a fallen tree that bridged a raging stream and had to check the mud for fresh horse shoe tracks. we never found them again.

but walking in the woods with this photographer who is also an art teacher on a reservation in arizona was equal to the experience. when artists connect, worlds shake and then settle into something altogether different. changed. strengthened. supported.

sabbie we were really poor in college,
often barefoot, thou that was by choice
and we hung out on the oval
all the time
in that little grove
of four pine trees
and we felt rich
if we had our friends around us
some chocolate or a snack
and a pack of tally-hos.

there was nothing else in the whole world that we needed.
