u24 i read an interesting thing (possibly on /.) saying that we should be classified not as mammals but as symbiants, because we rely on the bacteria inside us to function; without it we'd be dead.

zeke in costa rica i saw a large plant (informally referred to as an umbrella plant) which had a form of algae growing in it's stem. according to the biologist who was our guide this algae only occurs in that plant and is carried within the plants cells. as i recall their dna was enmeshed. symbiosis to the cellular and reproductive level.

and those leaf cutter ants that farm a mold that only grows in their underground gardens. i think they do not eat anything but the mold to which they feed all of the leaves that they cut.

don't tell the intelligent design crowd. they will find much meaning in these species. too bad people reject the simplest conclusion: the one which precedes fro that which we are able to observe and measure (to one degree or another). 		051109
