amy the only part of yesterday's seminar (delivered with satisfying enthusiasm, btw) about the Snowball Earth hypothesis- some 700 million years ago the entire planet covered with ice- the only part that i paid attention to (because i'm not really scientifically interested in 700 million years ago), was the famous Robert Frost poem presented at the end:

Fire and Ice
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To know that for destruction ice
