native persimmon Perhaps he hadn't let himself be so convinced as to cancel all appointments for the afternoon, no. Well, but, he had had more than an inkling this weekend would be their last in the series.
He wouldn't have thought what was theirs could be resolved so swiftly over Monday's breakfast. She hadn't even took breaths enough in between her strikingly foreign theories and apologies to finish her coffee. She hadn't even stayed to bring the dishes inside or help clean up, just scoffed her chair back and made it across the yard somehow to the driveway. She could have been stomping, hunched over, shuffling, flying- he sat realizing he hadn't seen how she went, just one moment her hand on the armrest, next reaching towards the car door.
Hmm. A new breeze lingered along his nape and across kis knuckles; he slid her mug into his palms for warmth. He saw or imagined the clouds shifting about so he could better take in his mismatched acquisitions.
So there at the table he remained, robbed of his stormy ambitions and yet somehow satisfied with his accomplishments. It was indeed a day of fiery equilibrium between failures and his contentment at having tried.
He considered how many days again until he would find himself lost amidst the toil of rapture and emptiness. He considered getting another cup of coffee.
