sarpedon I was worried
That I was too late
That you had not found me
And had gotten lost in the process

I looked
In search of red
Looking for that bright color
That would signal your arrival

I saw it
A quick glimpse
Of you in the car
A sigh of relief
You were now pulling to the side

Finally
I climbed in
We had connected
Once so far away
Together once again

Feebly
I let out
A simple hello
I was a bit speechless
For what was I to say

Silence ensued
I am shy, I know
There was so much to say
That all I could say
Was "It is great to see you again"

Sporadic conversation
About checking out
The University of Chicago
Obtaining our applications

And then
You decided we would
Go up to get drinks
At that place so high up

I had the time
To travel with you
Wherever you so wanted

All I remember
Was that I wanted
Simply to spend time with you

To talk to you
To get to know you better

As we shopped
Or really looked around
Many thoughts flooded my mind
I had not gone shopping like this for years
And certainly not alone with a girl
And definitely not with someone I really liked

Alas, but so far away
I realized that things
Could never work out
That whatever I though
Would have to remain unrealized

And soon enough
Perhaps too soon
We had to depart
Even in the hotel room
It was hard to avoid it
We cast those meaningful glances
Both not able to articulate what we thought

And I apologize
I waited this long to tell you
But you can always rest in the knowledge
That I have not forgotten
I have remembered you
