Somewhere in the land of rainbows and dreams of romping with Elmo through sun -shiney streams it was embedded in some subterrainian fissure. The old smiley-face pop-culture iconography-Sure - and in the age of ironic and effete disassociative malaise and sardonic self projections where does the smileyface have any currency? Semicolons anyone? Okay so smileyface not such a bad thing these days. A good shot of the atavistic happy can sure take the edges off - and there's no deleterious side effects either.
