Brad Jaco Pastorious.... a rather disturbed jazz electric bass player known for his crazy antics and antisocial behavior. He was known to curse at roomfuls of elementary school children, make pompous and insulting remarks to jazz legends, go out onstage and refuse to play, leave loads of other peoples' expensive equipment in the street.... and none of this was due to a sense of humor. He was actually just that screwed up. And that's only the tip of the iceberg... oh yeah he was killed in 1987 in a fight with the bouncer of a bar. There is a painting done by yours truly of him in my room... i still refuse to sell it. 000714

Milkman Dan Jaco was a Manic Depressive, you know, an actual disease. Not just screwed up. Chemical imbalance in the brain. He died after he picked a fight with the bouncer so he would knock him out and get some sleep to escape from his own thoughts. It wasn't the first time he did it. 001118

used to be a cha cha anyone interested in the bass guitar would do well to seek out a copy of his self-titled first album. very, very few musicians have ever come close to playing with that amount of dexterity, while still retaining so much warmth and humanity. joni mitchell's "hejira" is another fine demonstration of his startlingly lyrical bass-playing. some of joni's best work, as well. 030511
