Something a little more democratic and a lot more ambitious… The blathermap of the world uses the same methodology as the maze but is intended to be open ended, communal and constantly growing. (Assuming anyone else can be bothered) Here’s how: 1. Find a blathe you want to link to. This must be plausibly connected to your new blathe. That is to say if you’re linking from a place in Spain to somewhere in Russia, you have to create an entry, or series of entries inbetween for how you got there. Eg an entry for a flight from Moscow airport to Barcelona airport . If you can be bothered it would also be good to put in entries for the airports. Transport nodes are good places for other people to jump off from or link to. Of course it need not be a plane, it could be a teleport pad, a passing spaceship or a magic carpet. It doesn’t matter what it is as long as the narrative of a journey is maintained. 2. Create your new entry WITH NO LINKS. Just describe where you are. Use a code of your own devising for the title of the blathe (I advise your initials and a four figure number) anything sufficiently random so that you don’t crash in on other people’s entries. 3. Go to the blathe you want to link from and add a link to your new blathe. 4. If it would be possible to travel back the other way, put a link in your new blathe back to the old one. In the example above of the flight from Russia to Spain, however, you should not link back as the plane is only going one way. You should make a new blathe instead for the flight from Barcelona to Moscow. General Tips: 1. Remember that the initial blathe under each code is a description of a place, not an action. Start entries with “You are in…” rather than “You go to…” Movement goes in the links underneath. 2. Never put the words “back to” in a link. People reading it may be coming from the other direction! Even if the blathe as you wrote it is a dead end, someone else may come along and put a link in to somewhere else. 3. The bigger this thing gets the better chance there is of duplication. It probably doesn’t matter whether there is more than one entry for the same place but you should try and find links to existing blathes wherever you can. 4. Be careful. On Blather there is no going back. If you fuck up a link its there for ever. The easiest mistake to make (as you will see if you’ve been all through the blathermaze) is to blathe your new entry under the old code. 5. Don’t link to blathes that don’t exist yet. Write the new blathe, then go back and make the link.
