unhinged holy motherfucking shit

harlan...dude...how the hell are you? i was just talking about you yesterday with my best friend that moved out to california. weird...i still have the same aim screenname if you wanna chat sometime: coyo22faith

i've had a pretty turbulent year. i moved back to ohio last may but i didn't finish my degree in wisconsin. i was planning on finishing by flying back and forth a couple times but after five months of living with my parents again, the second time i came back to wisconsin i just didn't get on the plane to go back and i've been living in wisconsin again ever since.

i never finished my degree up here. after six years of college and my shoulder injury, i've decided to take an extended vacation from school. i might go back at some point to finish my masters, but at this moment that's pretty indefinite. and in the past eight months i've become a semiserious semipracticing buddhist, meditating, doing yoga, trying my hardest to be a vegetarian. the meditating helps my mental health immensely, the yoga is very good for my shoulder if i do it regularly and being a vegetarian 90% of the time makes me feel a lot better physically.

so in short, i've liberated myself and i'm much happier most of the time than i was back in the day.

i hope you are doing well too duder.

Roaul Duke im doing ok. this past year has been recovering, financially and otherwise, from a rather shitty year befor that. i got arrested for my first and hopefully last time. misdemeanor posession of an unmeasurable amount of concentrated cannabis(hashish.) all kinds of crazy shit happened i was held up at gun point for 3 nights and 2 days. made a lot of stupid choices. I gave up on everything and wasnt thinking right. but this year is good. the only problems im having are financial. lately all i do is go to work, and workout because i have a free membership at the gym i work at. I dont have aol. i am using the computer at work. my laptop was destroyed. im too tired to think of more to say right now. 060607

unhinged dude, i would say crazy is the right word to describe it. but i'm glad to hear from you, i think about you from time to time and hope that you are still kicking, breathing, living, you know. i hope you've steered yourself away from the shit that ended up with a gun in your face. that's no good, but i'm sure you don't need me to tell you that.

you have the ability to transcend the shittiness right inside of you. just flick the switch. turn your light on. keep on that right path. i'll put you in my tonglen.

Roaul Duke you know, out of any religion that i have read about buddhism is the closest to anything i could follow. I would actually like to learn more. any sites or anything to recommend to me.

i moved across town in order to get myself out of that situation.

unhinged yeah, sorry; i don't always have the most reliable internet access and i'm not even sure if you are still around but i do have some sites and books you could check out

www.dharmapunx.com
www.dalailamafoundation.org (that might not be right; if it's not just google the dalai lama foundation)

i have some other really good links on my computer; if i can remember the next time i'm near it i'll look them up and add them.

i lean towards tibetan buddhism rather strongly because it centers the most around compassion. tibetan buddhism is also known as vajrayana buddhism. mahayana buddhism or 'the middle path' is also good. i would google some of these words to get a general knowledge:

vajrayana
mahayana
mantra
tonglen
deity yoga
the four noble truths
(the four buddhist seals)
the eightfold path
siddartha guatama
milarepa
bodhisattva

and if you like what you read there, i would highly recommend getting these books: (they are the foundation of my buddhist library and have had the most profound effect on my spiritual life and practice)

tibetan buddhism --- robert thurman
any translation of the dhammapada (i obviously prefer the tibetan)
the tibetan book of living and dying --- sogyal rinpoche
the wisdom of forgiveness -- hh the dalai lama and victor chan

sorry it took me so long dude; but i think even if you just dabble, this stuff will greatly help you. it took years for me to get this serious about it, but slowly it just transformed my life. trust me, no one feels weirder than me to think of myself as 'religious' but i've come to believe that positive faith of some kind is an essential part of human happiness.

anyway, i'm starting to feel a little preachy. but i hope this list helps you out and i hope you are doing well lately.

Roaul Duke ive checked out some of those words on google and wikipedia already, and i too feel strange about identifying with a religion. from what i have read thus far buddhism has the most aspects that i agree with compared to any other religion. i have been meditating for a few years now and have always found that it helps me find my center, my balance. im doing pretty good, i have internet access at work so thats the only time i can get online right now. 060705
