once there was a deer with one antler. and he was very sad. not on account of his one antler, mind you. "brain chemistry" a learned badger explained to him. he liked to watch hummingbirds though, when at all possible, as they distracted him. there is no convenient ending to this story; it involves the deer asking the world, or someone or something in it, or someone or something like that, to touch him calm and patient, with what is called empathy, while he looked for hummingbirds. the story ends on that question. this is strange, chiefly because even without receiving an answer, it was still a happy ending.
