secret encrypted magnesium hat Here's a sonofabitch making a speech at our enemies in Iraq to "bring it on" while many of our troops are still there and still coming under daily fire and dying at a rate of at least one per day.

His people have tried to spin any disagreement with his handling and policies in the middle east as not being supportive of our troops, but in a great show of support for our troops he recently signed off on numerous cuts in military benefits including cuts in hazard pay, combat pay, separation allowances for spouses and dependents as well as the death payment made to families of those killed in action.

Little publicized fact (because it would hurt his credibility as a military tough-guy if the truth got out): George W Bush, by merit of his father's position in the Nixon administration was able to gain entry into a Texas Air National Guard Unit that was already at 150% Capacity to avoid being sent to Vietnam. Due to a supposed misunderstanding/miscommunication regarding his transfer orders, then-Lieutenant Bush was AWOL (absent without leave) for the last year of his term of service. Being AWOL is a crime in the military, punishable by loss of rank, dishonorable discharge (which can interfere with one's ability to get jobs or hold office) and time in the stockade (prison), but W was never prosecuted or punished. His entire life seems to have been manufactured for him by his father, yet the blind fanatics (of which a third, as ever dumbening mentioned, believe that we have found weapons of mass destruction when in fact we have not) insist on thinking he's some kind of inspiration for us all. He is the poster boy for nepotism and patronage and all of the old ills of the political system. His "election" was a sham, the uncounted votes would have given Gore the electoral votes for Florida and thus the election, but the legal challenge to the results was thrown out by the US Supreme court by a 5-4 vote, with the 5 justices responsible for the decision having been nominated to the court by George Bush Sr. and Ronald Reagan.

Take your carrier landing, little cowboy. and shove it as far up your phony ass as it will go.

secret encrypted magnesium hat there's a certain comic irony to the way republicans foamed at the mouth over bill clinton's idiotic remark about not having inhaled during what was supposedly his only experience with marijuana, but none of them have ever questioned dubya's prio cocaine abuse or his DUI arrest preferring to believe that his present status as a "born-again christian" makes it all okay because that must mean it's all behind him now.

sorry, no dice, if fifteen to 20 years plus in the past makes it water under the bridge for dubya, then the same goes for his immediate predecessor

meanwhile, fuck you joe lieberman for thinking that the only way to beat bush is to BE bush

one hundred twenty plus days after the declared end of major combat operations in iraq and still none of the fabled weapons of mass destruction, although some check mailing bush-voting assclown actually called the FBI to report as suspicious a guy (see the weblog Creative Loafing from a couple of weeks ago or so to learn more) reading an op-ed piece entitled "Weapons of Mass Stupidity"

not to be overly alarmist, but i am willing to bet that the white house is hoping for some major terrorist act to in some way pre-empt the elections

black out much?

dubya claimed that he has always said that the country's power infrastructure should be upgraded and brought up to date but in his first year in office house republicans and a presidential veto derailed bills designed to require just that

that's all for now
i'm getting pissed just thinking about it
030816
...
s-e-m-h not once, not twice but on THREE SEPARATE FUCKING OCCASIONS

So although the kind of necessary repairs and upgrades made to the power structure would not have been anywhere near complete by now, just remember the next two or three times this might happen between now and then that we were more at risk for longer than we needed to be thanks to president dumbass whose presence at some high priced republican fundraiser in the south while nearly 50 million americans were without power is the equivalent to the old saw about "Nero fiddling while Rome burned"

but then what else is new

yeah, this homeland is feeling really secure.

bandersnatch on a semi-related note: on september 12 and for the next week or so all the media and polititions were saying to not let september 11 effect you or the terrorist got want they wanted, and not to get angry, and not all muselims or middle-easterners were responcible. that is great advice.

i just wish the government followed it.

i remember reading a newspaper late 2001 or early 2002 that said we would be invading iraq in summer 2003 (if thats not nationalist propaganda, then i dont know what is). then other "reports" and news stories say that we are looking for weapons_of_mass_destruction in iraq (so first they anounce plans for an attack, then they find an excuse hmmm). we find none, so we say that you are guilty because you denied being guilty, and we attack.

if the attack really wasnt about nukes and chemical weapons, then it must have been about september 11. so we attack the iraq government because of something that a radical religious frenge group from another government did.

if you ask me, the terrorists won not by changing the way we live our day to day lives, but by changing what we let our government get away with.

and if the governemt continues these actions, then the amount of people who disagree will grow, and the "terrorists" my be known as "revolutionaries" or "catalists" in textbooks after the united states tears itself apart.

IKC 56-80 The same guys who run Dept. of Defense were drafting up an Iraq invasion plan since after the first Gulf War, they just weren't able to get Clinton to go along with it

They are part of an organization called "Project for a New American Century" (PNAC) and if you read their website it pretty much sounds like an outline for building an empire. They have all been figures in previous republican presidential administrations and are, conveniently enough, prominent in the current one

These are not all of the members, but the most alarmingly obvious ones

Richard Perle (Member, Defense Policy Advisory Committee)

Paul Wolfowitz (Deputy Secretary of Defense)

Lewis "Scooter" Libby (Vice-Presidential Chief-of-Staff to Dick Cheney) (though with a nickname like that you half-expect some dipshit wearing a beanie with a propeller on top...wait that's the guy running the show anymore....shit)

James Woolsey (former CIA director)

The administration's claim that the war was caused by a failure of diplomacy is an out-and-out lie when you take into consideration that high-ranking defense officials had been planning it for eleven years and word from within parts of Dept. of Defense and the NSA (National Security Agency) suggests that it was never a question of "if" but only of "when"

pobodys nerfect I really want to comment on this because as a Canadian,I'm becomming more and more pissed of at some of the things bush is doing involving my country lately, but it's 3 am here and I'm tired so maybe tomorrow. I can't go to bed without saying one thing first. "s-e-m-h" said something here earlier that's bothering me--"50 million americans were without power". That's not true. That 50 million figure was for the whole area affected,so obviously Canadians were included in that number. I was one of them. Never label a Canadian under the word
"american"--we hate it,and will usually correct those that do.
030817

nomme i'm canadian
i'm from north america and am naturally american by birth and heritage
there are all kinds of americans
i think people can be gay but heterosexual
american doesn't have to refer to nationality
being gay doesn't have to be about sexuality
i'm a gay american in that sense

secret encrypted magnesium hat i said "nearly"

and seeing as how you are burdened by having to share a contnent with a country being run like a drunken heavily armed college fraternity under the command of a noxious vegetable like bush, i would hope you realize i meant no slight to any of the Canadians in the house tonight

s-e-m-h Funny also that from Mexico down to Panama, "Americano" means anyone on this continent, but when speaking specifically of "Americans" from the US, they are typically "norteamericanos" (North Americans, northern americans) or when specifying Canadians "Canadiense"

oldephebe really, really perceptive comments
so we're not all asleep, with our hands happily out in front of us, stumbling in the dark, and sating ourselves on ((shudder)) the grotesqueries of "reality" TV. Keep tearing down those towers of illusion - this so called democrasy run by oligarchies of corruption, entrenched wealth wed to the machinations of delusional men who think the job of the ruled (or the "polis" or "enlightened citizenry" is simply to close our eyes, open wide and choke it down with a wan smile on our faces - our nature is obdurate - and behind the very face of "enlightened" and "elected" governance or rule is the face of tyranny - peremptory paternalism - hubris - hauteur - I'm no anarchist but I say one well thrown rock can shatter the frosted mirror - we should begin to see clearly the dissonance (and perceptual and objective distance) between what is conjured for and mimed by that aloof bufoon and what actually is taking place, and why it's taking place -

blather on!!

screwing for virginity great speech...but one minor thingy the united states of america is not a democracy, it never was, and probably never will be. it is a republic.

030817

oldephebe don't be sorry just be convinced of the primacy of your position - I was going to go through the whole representative republic pedantic progression thing but I think most Americans identify or equate our so called enlightened form of governance (imperfect, chimera and all that)as a democracy - and so we pat ourselves on the back and say we're better than the godless heathen and so I guess 300 billion is what it costs to make the world safe for "democrasy" or we need the dough to fund that lurching omnibus apparatus used to promulgate and prosyletize the beknighted "third" world (even though those cultures and ethnic extracts were forming cooperative governance and synergies of complimentary skills and all that to erect infrastructures while modern day 1st worlders were roaming across the continent clothed in furs being all bestial and opputurnistic with the pillaging and all that)to the american conceptualization of "democrasy" blah blah - don't apologize for making a valid distinction - I was being reductive merely to faciley make a point, you could call american a meritocracy, a representative plutocrasy, yes yes yes -
Now you see why I was being reductive because once I get started I exhaust even myself with all the blah blah blah - ornatley embroidered qualifications and parenthetical asides - blah blah blah - stay on me 'cause I can be reductive or facile at times - endless, endless involutions of incoherency -
Okay I have completely abandoned whatever line of reasoning i was pursuing to validate my inadvertant mischaracterization (legal) of the form of american governance - will somebody get me a cool glass of Michelobe laced with ridalin?

s-e-m-h we are a republic, which implies a more indirect form of representative democracy because pure democracy on this scale would be unwieldy at best and at worst would frequently give way to mob rule

that said, the elected representatives have a mandate to represent the will of the people at large and not just the people at large corporations

"george_w_bush_is_a_punk_ass_bitch" yeah, a master piece of persuasive writing

ugh, political blathes suck!

030818

oldephebe There are is an almost unbreachable gulf between what, as I said before and others have later clarified, between a representative democrasy, as I put it, a chimera which means basically the same as strideo and blah-ze so eloquently articulated and the self-interested collusion that takes place on all levels of governance - the water is very dirty out there - the text books may say one thing but the real deal is who can be master of the game - within the so-called codified apparatus we so reverantly refer to as our government - demagogues and extremes aside George Bush (W) and Dick Cheney, Papa Bush, Brother Bush and his subordinate coterie of colusion and conspiracy - engineered what amounts to a coup d'etat
- now does that unhappy fact shield the democratic party from accusations of corruption and inept self interested governance? Have democrats been heavy handed, have they attempted to expand American spheres of interest unethically under the convenient rubric of national interest? Sure. It's a big ol' dirty tub and they're all bathing in it. As far as verifying the almost inextricable and conveluted association of Daddy Bush and "Prime Minister" Dick Cheney just write the Secretary of State of Texas for information on the various business ventures of the two or better yet do your own objective search and cross referance the windfalls of revenue/contracts/tax abatements etc. with either legistlation directly or indirectly influenced by the two principals - as well as examples of the two skillfully exploiting pressure points in the inter-connectedness of private holdings and state and federal government - You are quite perceptive though in cautioning against wrapping ones legs around extreme and emotionally charged verbiage constituting one antipodal position or another -

hey man they're all dirty and it's been going on at least since the late 18th century - democrats, republicans, federalists, I guess it gets down to which is the lesser of the two evils. All those revered documents are, to those really in power, is a legally and patriotically validated pretext or vehicle from which to launch and or butress the latest extortion of the so-called elctorate/taxpayers and their deeply held convictions to further entrench, preserve and extend the reach and influence of these fiefdoms - graysuited, non-descript men weilding incalculable influence/power
I realize I need to streamline this latest diatribe - perhaps I should write these blathes before I begin making my argument but still I hope at least the gist of it was conveyed -

secret encrypted magnesium hat please, do tell me wherein my inaccuracies lie

The cutting of military service personnel benefits?

The part about Dubya being AWOL from his National Guard committment for sixteen months?

The 80's era cocaine habit?
The DUI arrest?

The remarks about his stance on the country's power infrastructure standing in direct contrast to his own vote and that of Republicans in the House of Representatives on the issue

The Enron connection?

Cheney's refusal to open his records to federal investigators in relation to hearings on US Energy policy?

The lowering of the bar from looking for weapons_of_mass_destruction to looking for "evidence of weapons programs" in mid-stream?

The "bring them on" remark?

The publicity-stunt carrier landing photo-op when it would have been just as easy (and less expensive) to take the Marine One helicopter?

The positioning of PNAC members in key positions within the DoD

The administration's still unproven claim about Iraqi ties to al Qaeda and the infamous (and now almost clearly untrue) "sixteen words" in thje state of the Union address about yelllowcake uranium from Niger?

Please tell me where i'm missing the ball so far...

The projections of the popular vote count in Florida if the recount had progressed?

The division of the voting lines in the US Supreme Court on the matter?

One fact has become inaccurate over time and that is that the causalty rate among US service personnel deployed has finally dropped below an average of one per day

The only thing that can't be accurate because it is purely my opinion is the title statement about Dubya being a punk-ass-bitch, but if questioned about it later, i won't turn around and deny it or scramble for my team of advisors to help me qualifiy it as the punk ass bitch in question frequently does

the only agenda i had in the beginning was venting my spleen about the lying little sack of crap

and as for my intelligence, i was already sick enough of having it insulted on a daily basis by the White House press corps and whoever is Ari Fleischer's replacement

s-e-m-h Gore?

Couldn't possibly have been any worse than what we have now?

Barbara Bush whining to the Today show about criticisms of her little Curious George (all apologies to cartoon monkeys everywhere) calling the Democratic candidates a "sorry bunch of politicians"

(This from the same woman who said during the early days of the Iraq invasion that she couldn't be brought to "waste my beautiful mind" on such subjects as civillian casualties)

Whose henchmen outed Valerie Plame to Bob "No-Facts" Novak?

The worldwide consensus seems to be that the so-called "war on terror" is only serving to galvanize and radicalize the sort of behavior in the Middle East we're supposedly trying to combat with such effective remarks as "Bring them on."

And then who else but a wacko idelogue or puppet thereof would put a nut like Lt. Gen. William "Jerry" Boykin to get up in front of the press and let a torrent of inflammatory shit that sounds like a "Christian" version of the same kind of apocalyptic horseshit that comes out of the mouths of the people they've branded as our enemies

The last thing anyone needs is one more creature from BushCo painting this to look like some modernized version of the Crusades.

And why the fuck isn't Bush pal Pat Robertson wasting away at Camp X-Ray this very second?

At worst, Gore might not have been MUCH better, but i can hardly see any way in which he could have been any worse.

McCain would have been a better Republican if we had to have one of those in the seat, but The Shrub?

To quote both Al Pacino's "Tony Montana" and any number of little brother Jeb's friends in assorted places throughout Miami:

"You got to be sheeting me, maing"

Jabberwocks done wasting time on politics Why do people waste their time arguing about politics? Sure you have a right to state your opinion, but how many people actually care enough to read it. It all seems like a waste of time to argue something you can't change when you could be doing something better with your life. 031020
...
oE There will come a time when those who do not "waste" their time in discussing politics or sifting fallacy from fact and being vigilant and vociferously objecting to the exsanguination of our constitutionally protected rights and the daiphanous pretext used to assert by gradations an increasingly paternalistic and authoritarian form of governance..those who would rather wade through their labotomized lives will find all those cherished liberites and freedoms and such the cauality of their enlightened indifferance - Kudos to every one whether or not i agree with you who would venture into those restive seas of speculation and dissention and not go gently into that good night -

oldephebe but are we ascribing a contemporary pejorative connotation to the idea, or concept of politics and all that the term encompasses? Or are we invoking the Aristotlean invocation of that term.
