Kate A wall of my room is lined with bookselves, though not completely filled with books. I take great comfort in having my favorite books near me when I'm sad because I can flip through them and read favorite passages and smile and know that even though I might be sad or mad now, one day I wasn't sad while reading it and one day I won't be sad when I read it again. But I keep letting friends borrow my books because I want them to understand life too, but sometimes they take a long time to read them. Danielle has "Nine Stories", Bevan has "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", and Julia has "Franny and Zooey". I wish that Julia would finish Franny so I could give it to Paul. He said that he hadn't read a good book in a while. 020530

minnesota_chris Books plural!

I bought books when I should have been Christmas shopping. I bought

"One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

"Cry, the Beloved Country" by Alan Paton

"Les Trois Mousquetaires" (The Three Musketeers in French) by Alexandre Dumas. Couldn't find the Little Prince.

Oh, and a ska album (Bosstones) woo hoo!

gnome I should read more books. It would stop me surfing the net and spending at least 2 minutes reading (and indeed responding to) blather about books. This is in no way productive.... I should read more books. 040505

amy I have some vague ideas for them, but more importantly, I set myself a timeline. astrology helps to decide that certain periods of time can be counted on to be the same in feeling, so I give myself 25 years. a little short actually, but I don't want my audience to be pushing daisies by the time i'm done with them.... i stopped reading books and watching movies for the most part years ago, now I can devote my freetime to the "project", since I really don't even like entertainment anymore... writing doesn't come all that easily to me, though. 080924

Toxic_Kisses Some of the customers who have seen me reading one of my Carl Sagan book seem to automatically think that by doing so I am somehow, as they put it “intellectual” anddeepwhich makes me laugh inwardly because their assumptions are indeed quite amusing. I mean think of it, were I to read a Gloria Steinem book would they then think me a feminist? Or what if I were to read a Bill O'Reilly would I be considered a conservative? Were that the case I’d hate to ever be cot reading Joseph Stalin or Tomas de Torquemada biographies!

Though were it possible to take on some of the characteristics of the books I read then I would read far more books about women like Nancy Mace (In the Company of Men: A Woman at the Citadel) and Kara Hultgreen (Call Sign Revlon: The Life and Death of Navy Fighter Pilot) as well as Wangari Muta Maathai (Unbowed: A Memoir) to gain their unwavering courage and determination.

And also far more books about 1940’s and 50’s Actresses to gain their elegance, composure, dignity and sassiness.

And so I could indeed be considered smart I’d throw inWho's Afraid of Schrödinger's Cat?” By by Ian Marshall andDanah Zohar as well as some detailed history books.

I think then all I’d be missing is some culture and creativity to which a good amount of amazing poetry and incredible art books of the old masters (as well as their biographies)would solve in a pinch.

Oh dear and I nearly forgot, etiquette, eloquence and refinement! To which no doubt a good dose of Miss Manners could cure quite easily.

Yes were it truly possible to take on the characteristics of the books one read I do think this would make for a rather good starting point.
