so smooth and silent in this darkness
where i see
distant raindrops streaking down
in the light of the streetlamps.
jacket pulled tight around me,
every noise is startling.
something is jerking me into the darkness.
to unzip this skin in
telephone booths
and walk out a different person,
i could say anything
or be anything.

i could finally find freedom in anonymity,
so sweeter than sitting and watching
everyone else's lives fulfilled
before my eyes.

i could taste everything
as a new person
and dance through the neighborhood at midnight.
